Participant Information Pack – Torana Nationals 2018
Welcome to Torana Nationals 2018. With less than one month until the event we are getting excited and we hope you are too. We thank you for supporting the event and look forward to seeing you in November.
We have been working hard over the last few months since registration opened to organise a funfilled event to bring together Torana enthusiasts and at the same time raise much needed funds for two very worthy charities, the local Canberra Hospital Foundation and the national Beyond Blue.
As you are probably aware this is the second Torana Nationals event after a successful event in 2016.
The event will be held over 3 days in the Australian Capital Territory between Friday 16th and Sunday 18th of November 2018, with the showpiece activity being the Show and Shine on Sunday the 18th of November.
Following is some key information to prepare you for the event and ensure you can enjoy all the activities on offer.
Friday 16th November
The event will kick off with the Friday evening Meet and Greet which will be held at the Alpha Hotel which is located at 6 Rowland Rees Cres in the southern Canberra suburb of Greenway. The Alpha Hotel is also the preferred accommodation for the event so those staying there won’t have to move far!
The Meet and Greet will begin at 6:00pm with parking onsite at the Alpha Hotel or at the Vikings club next door. Drinks will be available for purchase at the Alpha Hotel and we have arranged for a van to be on site so that you can purchase pizza.
You were asked to nominate the number of people attending this event (there is no cost) on your registration form, however if you have changed your mind and decided to attend, please reach out and let us know so we (and the Alpha Hotel) can have an idea of numbers.
Saturday 17th November
A civilised social cruise will be held late Saturday morning to the early afternoon. The cruise will depart from the Alpha Hotel at 11am. We suggest you arrive between 10:00 and 10:30am and be prepared for a pre-cruise briefing at 10:45am.
From the Alpha Hotel at the southern end of the ACT, we will head on an approximately 45 minute cruise to the North West edge of the ACT to a small semi rural village called Hall. Once we arrive at Hall we have booked the Hall Showground to allow cruisers to park, have a chat and admire the awesome Toranas of other attendees.
The Hall Showground is booked until 2:30pm to allow everyone a chance to chat and has nearby cafes, an oval and children’s playground and toilet facilities.
The route we have chosen will be mostly dual lane, 80-100km/h speed limit with minimal traffic lights and roundabouts. The route will take us eastward on Isabella Drive, north on the Monaro Highway, West on Parkes Way (where you will get a good view of many of Canberra’s best attractions), North on Gungahlin Drive and West on the Bartin Hwy.
The ACT Police are aware of the cruise and all drivers need to obey the traffic laws.
See the following link to view the route in Google Maps,

Saturday Evening will see the Torana Nationals 2018 Gala Dinner held at the Vikings Club in the Tuggeranong Town Centre.
The gala dinner will be a three course sit down meal and will start at 7:00pm. Only those who have registered and paid will be allowed into the function room where the dinner will be held. We ask attendees to arrive from 6:00pm so we can get everyone seated before the event begins.
The event VIPs Sandra Bennett, Bev Brock, Joe Felice and Bob Morris will attend the dinner in a social capacity but we ask that you don’t approach them for autographs at the dinner. There will be opportunity for that on Sunday at the Show and Shine.
We will also hold a small auction with Holden, Torana and motorsport memorabilia and items to raise funds for our two charities Beyond Blue and the Canberra Hospital Foundation.
Sunday 18th November
The main event for the weekend is the Torana Nationals 2018 Show and Shine that will be held at the same venue as 2016, Vikings Park, 4 Amsinck St, Wanniassa.
The Show and Shine will run from 9:00am till 3:00pm, however all registered Toranas should arrive between 8:00am and 8:30am to allow vehicles to be parked and ready for spectators to arrive from 9:00am. The organising committee will be advertising the Show and Shine extensively through social media and locally in Canberra so we expect a steady stream of spectators throughout the day.
There will be traders with stalls set up at the event, food and coffee vans and our Holden VIPs will be in attendance and signing autographs at designated times through the day.
The Show and Shine will include judging by independent judges and experts from various Torana clubs from across the country.
